What’s On Your Ipod?
Both of you probably know that I received a 5th generation 30GB black ipod as a graduation present from my loving girlfriend, the Mrs. Up until recently I had only used it as a means for audio salvation from local FM radio stations, but now I have seen the light! Podcasting. Best. Invention. Ever.
I’m obesessed. I find myself rarely listening to music on my ipod now. If I’m in the car quickly driving to the store, I’ll take an extra lap around the block just to listen to a few more minutes of This Week In Tech or maybe BoagWorld.com’s web design podcast.
I currently listen/watch (remember its a 5th gen ipod) 24 podcasts. Many of them geek oriented. Actually, all but 7 of them are geek oriented.
Here’s my list o’podcasts:
- 43 Folders
- 43 Folders is a blog/podcast devoted entirely to productivity and avoiding procrastination in the workplace.
- Ask a Ninja
- Can you guess what this one is about? Yeah, users ask questions via email which are then answered via ninja. This podcast is truly hilarious!
- Blue Man Group Video Podcast(itunes link)
- This podcast is a kind of behind-the-scenes look at the Blue Man Group production after their recent move to the Venetian Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The podcast has some very amazing clips from portions of the performance.
- Command N
- Hosted by Amber Mac, Mike Lazazzera, Brian McKechnie and Jeff MacArthur. This is a web/tech video news blog. It’s good, but there are better out there.
- Cranky Geeks
- Hosted by John C. Dvorak of TechTV fame. This podcast is much more cut and dry as far as tech news goes. Topics are usually to the point and the guests are usually well established web/tech gurus.
- Ctrl+Alt+Chicken
- Hosted by Alex Albrecht and his girlfriend Heather Stewart. The world’s first cooking podcast. The prepared dishes usually don’t pass as edible, but Alex and Heather are hilarious on screen together.
- Dane Cook: Danecast (itunes link)
- I’m a big Dane Cook fan. I was glued to my TV this summer watching Tourgasm. This podcast consists of the day to day happenings of the funny man. Dane has got to be the most committed to his fans than any other performer.
- Diggnation
- Definitely one of my favorites. I’m a devoted digg.com user and that’s what this podcasts is all about. Hosted by Kevin Rose and Alex Albrecht, this podcast covers “some of the weekly top stories on the social news website digg.com. That’s D-I-G-G-dot-com” Watch the podcast, you’ll get it.
- dl.tv
- Dee-eL stands for Digital Life. Very tech/geek related show. I’m starting to see a trend here.
- Entourage (itunes link)
- This is a podcast with interviews from the cast of the HBO series Entourage, which I’m happily addicted to.
- French Maid TV
- A little on the perverted side, but very entertaining nonetheless. This is mostly a “How-To” video podcast in which french maids provide a step-by-step tutorial.
- Geekbrief.tv
- Daily geek show discussing tech news and some reviews.
- Geekdrome
- This podcast is slowly climbing my favorites list. Movie/video game reviews are given.
- Hak.5
- This is a very geeky podcast mostly discussing Linux and hardware hacks.
- Hope is Emo
- Comedy skit about an emo girl in high school. The girl that plays Hope, Crista Flanagan, is actually an actress on MadTV.
- InDigital
- Tech gadget reviews
- Inside the Net
- I’ve just started to listen to this one. Leo and Amber interview the movers and shakers of Web 2.0.
- MacBreak
- The first High Definition Mac related podcast.
- MAKE Magazine
- From the makers of Make Magazine. This podcast is usually a very quick run through on how to make things….trust me it’s interesting. These guys are hardcore geeks, always looking to make something better.
- Rocketboom!
- “We’re gonna zoom zoom, rocket!”
- Strong Bad Emails & More
- Hooray for Strong Bad on my ipod.
- this WEEK in TECH
- Leo Laporte runs this one. Easily one of my favorite podcasts. I actually look forward to this one every Monday. Tech news.
- Tiki Bar TV
- Wikipedia.org has a really great explanation about this one. I’ll let them tell it.
“Each episode features a problem that is rectified by the episode’s namesake cocktail, which is scribbled on a prescription pad by Dr. Tiki and “filled” by the bartender Johnny Johnny who explains the construction of the cocktail.”
- Web Design Podcast from Boagworld.com
- The first web design podcast I’ve actually been able to stand, even though their British! Just kidding, a must listen for any web designer.
Amazingly, I still have 10 gigs left on my ipod. Can you recommend any other podcasts I can waste my day to?

Jeebus, you subscribe to almost as many ‘casts as I do. I’m going to check out a couple of these on your list. And as far as “geek” goes, I notice you don’t subscribe to Buzz Out Loud from CNET (link). It’s “family safe”, but at the same time, a pretty irreverent view on current tech news and trends. I like it.
BTW, really good to see you yesterday! I’ll be down this weekend to harass you some more.
