No Strings Attached

No, I’m not talking about one of Nsync’s many fabulous hits (sarcasm). I’m talking about my Netgear WG511T that I purchased from ebay for my laptop. I had been trying to use a D-Link DWL-G650 with not much luck. Remember, I’m using Kubuntu, and some things aren’t quite as easy as they are in Windows. Although, many things are easier, but that’s another story for another post.

This wireless card is phenomenal. I consider myself fairly versed in the *nix world, and I’ve never had a piece of aftermarket hardware just work right out of the box. There is almost alwasy, some driver to install or some 1000 word installation guide to decipher. I literally put the card in my pcmcia slot and was browsing the web within 5 seconds.

So, if anyone has an older laptop without integrated wireless connectivity AND is running Kubuntu, I highly recommend the Netgear WG511T. It will fulfill all your linux wifi desires.

A Dell laptop, running Linux, with a Netgear PCMCIA wifi card — you are truly teh hax0r. Now if you could only get a Mac Mini to power your Subaru… I’d call you “gawd”. My stomach’s rumbling, I think I need an Effie Booger. :-)
